Electrical installers visit the Tema plant of Nexans Kabelmetal Ghana Limited
Oct 31, 2018A 50-man delegation of electrical installers from the Ashanti Region of Ghana on 31st October 2018 visited the Tema plant of Nexans Kabelmetal Ghana Limited (NKG) to have in-depth knowledge on the quality assurance processes associated with the production of Nexans cables.
The delegation comprised of two (2) Electrical Associations - Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA) and Certified Electrical Wiring Professionals Association of Ghana (CEWPAG).
The visit formed part of NKG’s strategic objective to educate the public on quality assurance issues associated with using Nexans’ cables. It also sought to promote the Nexans brand, enhance stakeholder’s engagement as well as develop brand loyalty.
The visit initiated by the Sales Department exposed participant to the various manufacturing processes, from raw material testing through to the final product testing and packaging.
In recent times, the influx of sub-standard electrical cables in Ghana, and the various interventions adopted by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to curb the menace has become a worry to the industry necessitating NKG to engage relevant stakeholders to educate and provide them with needed insight of best practices and procedures of cable manufacturing at Nexans Kabelmetal.
The Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) in a press conference on the 3rd September 2018, stated that over 70% of imported electrical cable brands they examined during a market surveillance were substandard and could cause fire. In addition, the authority hinted that about 80% of all domestic fire are caused by these substandard cables.
Against this background, NKG is very keen on maintaining its strong quality reputation on the market in Ghana and to maintain lasting relationship with existing and prospective clients to improve its market share in the cable industry.
Commenting on the visit, the leader of the delegation affirmed their commitment to patronize Nexans cables in their daily work as electrical installers.
